Dear Broncos Country,
We’re fucked.
But you already knew that.
After Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs officially completed their Dynasty on Sunday, you can’t help but ponder what’s next for the Donkey’s after sulking in the doldrums of mediocrity since 2015.
A fuckin’ decade of bad football.
Jesus.
On the bright side it seems the Broncos finally have a coach that isn’t incompetent. Finally. We also now have the richest ownership group in all of professional sports. Now we’ve got that Walmart money! Unfortunately, so far we have yet to “save money” and/or “live better.”
But let’s just get to the heart of it, shall we? The elephant in the room, if you will.
“Mr. Unlimited” himself, Russell Wilson.
I don’t know how many bots the Russell Wilson PR team deploys on any given social media post mentioning Russ’ name, but if I see one more account defending this guys actual performance on the football field I’m going to throw my phone into the ocean.
Russell Wilson sucks.
If you watched 5 minutes of Broncos football this year, you’d realize that.
He can’t run an offense efficiently. Russ relies completely on a play breaking down and him pulling a rabbit out of a hat. A decent strategy if you have the athleticism of a 28 year old Russell Wilson. But this 35 year old version of Russ stinks, and the Broncos will most likely take an $85 million dollar dead cap hit, spread over two years, if they cut him after June 1st of this year ($68 million over 1 year if they decide to cut him before June 1st) . A move that’s more or less expected to happen, because the Broncos are literally more eager to have an 85 MILLION DOLLAR DEAD CAP HIT, rather than pay Russell Wilson to to be their starting quarterback. The craziest part is that most of Broncos Country agrees that this is the right strategy going forward! Myself included. Just to be clear, that’s 85 million dollars less over two years (or 68 million over one year) to spend on other players to fill the roster. AKA a massive disadvantage when trying to compete with teams that can actually use that money.
Un-fuckin-believable.
And it’s not like we’re just a QB away from competing for a Super Bowl. There are holes up and down this roster (O-line, D-line, Linebacker, Tight End, Corner, Wide Receiver) that need fixing. And we only have 2 picks in the top 100 of this years draft to try and fix that. This isn’t an overnight solution.
Like I said at the top: We. Are. Fucked.
Oh and look at that, the Chargers just hired Jim Harbaugh to mentor Justin Herbert.
Sick. Another division foe who will maximize their ultra talented QB…
One more thing worth mentioning:
Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, CJ Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, DeSean Watson, Tua Tagovailoa
These are the QB’s the Broncos will be competing with for the next 10 years.
And that’s just in the AFC!
I want to give you a silver lining, I really do. I want to tell you there will a home run pick that’s sitting there at #12 that will give Denver a chance to compete.
But I can’t.
I can’t sit here and tell you that JJ McCarthy or Bo Nix will be better than any of the quarterbacks I just listed above. The odds of either of those guys being better than JUST ONE of those QB’s is slim at best.
I hate to do this to you Broncos Country. I hate to give you the cold hard truth about the reality of our favorite football team. I’d love to bullshit you and give you a vision of the future that’s filled with rainbows and sunshine, but that wouldn’t be telling the truth.
You want the truth?
Well here it is:
It’s been nearly a decade of irrelevance…
And I’m afraid it’s going to be another decade of the same.
Sincerely,
-MustacheMan
